MISS M. HUGHES MARRIED
MEMBER OF TASMAN CUP GOLF TEAM
Miss Margaret Hughes, one ofNew Zealand’s leading golfers and a member of the Tasman Cup team, was married quietly in Auckland on Saturday to Mr Roy Purdon a trotting trainer-driver. The ceremony was performed by the Ven. Archdeacon T. C. H. Partridge in St. George’s Church, Epsom. Mr J. K. Hughes gave his sister away, Mrs Joan Barrett attended the bride and Mr V. Webber was best man. Mrs Purdon, who is one of the lowest handicap golfers in the Dominion, won the national championship at Balmace wan in 1952 and for the last six or seven years has ranked with the country’s best players. She has been a- member of the Tasman Cup team to play against Australia on several occasions and is due of leave Auckland by air on July 16 to play in the Australian golf championship tournament at Brisbane and in the Tasman Cup match to be played at the end of July. She will probably rank as number 4 one player in the New Zealand team.;
