TERRORISM IN TUNIS

Resignation Of Government (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) TUNIS, July 6. The Bey of Tunis yesterday accepted the resignation of the Prime Minister, Mr Mohamed Saleh M’Zali. The resignation came in the midst of new outbreaks of terrorism. M? M’Zali had resigned during a Cabinet crisis in Paris last month but remained in office at the request of Mr Pierre Voizard, the Resident-General in Tunisia. Senior officials of each ministry will take charge of current business until a new goveriiment is formed. Mr M’Zali had been in office for only three months. This newest political crisis in Tunisia broke amid mounting terrorism throughout the protectorate, directed in particular against French farmers. Three battalions of French troops landed in Tunis today to strengthen the security forces.

The newly-arrived soldiers—paratroopers and a light infantry battalion—paraded through the Arab quarter of Tunis to the spot where a French policeman was assassinated by terrorists last week. Terrorist attacks continued over the week-end in Tunis where a City Councillor known for his pro-French views was shot dead last night.
