Climber Dies On Godwin Austen.
(Rec. 12.30 a.m.) SKARDU (Kashmir), July 6. Mario Puchez, a member of an Italian expedition to Mount Godwin Austen (28,250 ft in the Himalayas, died of pneumonia on June 21, it was learned today. Messages reaching Skardu said the expedition, led by Professor Ardito Besio, had been meeting continual bad weather which threatened its success. A message dated June 20 arrived by runner yesterday. It said one member had become ill with pneumonia at 19,000 ft and was being treated on the spot by Dr. Pagani, the expedition’s surgeon. Dr.,Pagani had gone up with oxygen and medical supplies as bad weather hampered attempts to bring the ill man down; but Puchez died next day.
