£20,000 BEQUEST TO CHARITY

Disabled Soldiers’ Welfare

(New Zealand Press Association) , AUCKLAND, July 6. Disabled servicemen of World War II will benefit to the extent of £20,000 or £25,000 under the terms of a will made by Mr George Booth, a farmer, of Manurewa, near Auckland. Mr Booth died on April 5, 1952, and left an estate valued at £75,000.

'A scheme to divide the amount of £20,000 to £25,000 among various charitable organisations in New Zealand will be prepared by the testator’s executors.

A clause in the will provides this amount for the “benefit and maintenance of New Zealanders who are or may be on active service in the war with Germany and her allies which commenced in September, 1939, and who are or may be disabled, or who contracted ill-health while on such active service ... or who may be in indigent or necessitous circumstances.” The executors of the will, the Guardian Trust and Executors Company of New Zealand, today asked the Chief y, us “Oe ( Sir Haro’d Barrowclougb’) in the Supreme Court whether this was ? vaHa charitable gift. His Honour indicated that he would find accordingly, but would give his judgment in writing.
