THREE COWS KILLED
POWER LINE FALLS NEAR , MILKING SHED
Three cows belonging to a Burwood dairy farmer were killed in early morning darkness yesterday. One cow became entangled in a fallen power line and, dragging it across the path to the milking shed, collapsed dead. Two others in the herd being driven in for milking stumbled into the live wire and died. Mr E. B. A. Florance, who runs 160 head of cattle with his brother, Mr A. Florance, on their 300-acre farm, found a fourth cow lying stunned by the shock.. He lifted the wire away from this victim with a stick. The cow re-, covered and struggled to its feet. Mr 1 lorance s dog narrowly escaped when ; approached the wire. Feeling the shock, it yelped and jumped away. Mr Florance, who yesterday afternoon did not appear unduly impressed with his own close brush with danger, said he could not explain the breaking of the line. ’
