High Japanese Birth-rate.— Japan's birth-rate in 1947 was the highest since 1926. and the mortality rate the lowest since 1872. General MacArthur’s headquarters has announced. According tn the population census of October 1, 1947. the population totalled 78.090.991. There were 2.714.786 births in 1947. The excess of births over deaths was 1,562,587, the greatest in the history of Japan.—Tokyo, August 22.
