LONDON, June 27. The American West Coast champion, T. Brown, scored a surprise win over F. Segura (Ecuador) in the third round of the Wimbledon singles championship. Brown's text-book orthodoxy forced Sogura into many errors. Brown maintained a brilliant Sow of strokes throughout. The Australians, D. Palls and G. Brown, again had easy wins. The American. J. Kramer, lost only one game against the Pole. Tloczynski. Kramer so far has dropped only five flames in three matches. The Midand player, A. J. Mottram, is the only Englishman remaining in the singles to contest the fourth round. He has successively beaten the Jugoslav, Laslo, the Czech, Siba, and the Belgian, Van den Eynd, losing only one set Results were as follows: Men’s Singles Third round—T. WAR STOCKS OF WOOL
(Rec. 12.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, June 28. A reserve price of 18.5 d a pound has been set for wool sold under the Empire scheme to dispose of war stocks The Minister of Commerce (Mr W J Scully) announced this in the House of Representatives. He said that a contributory price of .91d a pound to cover the industry's share of the administrative charges would be deducted from the price. Mr Seully added that the price less the contributory charge gave an average return of 1.79 d more than the average price over the whole clip payable by Britain under the war-time agreement with Australia.
