HOMELESS CHILDREN
Sir,—l was somewhat disturbed to read in a recent English journal the following on the best methods of dealing with homeless children. The article was written by experts on child guidance and social work. “The kind of institution that finds most favour is the cottage home, taking about 12 children of both sexes and in charge of a married couple. Homes accommodating 50 children or more, of one sex only, are felt to be unnatural and to create a feeling of being cut off from ordinary life. Also, such numbers make it impossible for any master or matron to give the individual attention needed by each one of their charges.” Our expensive, large institutions, then, are all wrong.—Yours, etc., SOCIAL WORKER.
