ROYAL ARCH, who is a typical English weight-carrier and stayer, is a horse of remarkable breeding, as he is Linebred to ADMIRATION, dam of that Queen r h ~ T ¥ rf ’ 1116 invincible PRETTY POLLY, winner of 22 races out of her and £3 8,597 in stakes. His sire, COLORADO KID, a grand racehorse and stayer, continues to meet with great success at the stud. He is a grandson of Pretty Polly.-MOLLY BAWN. the dam of ROYAL ARCH, and of six other winners, is a granddaughter of MIRANDA, own sister to Pretty Polly. ROYAL ARCH is not only superbly bred for success at the stud, but he was a high-class winner in England, both at three and four years of age, winning at 1$ miles, miles, and at 15 furlongs as a four-year-old when he was narrowly beaten over 21 miles. He was both a great weight carrier and stayer and was credited with being a very courageous horse. ROYAL ARCH retired from the racecourse perfectly sound, a great asset in a stallion. He is closely related to many great racehorses and famous sires, including the St. Leger winner. TEHRAN, the best stayer in England last year, and recently sold as a stallion to an English Syndicate for £lOO,OOO. ROYAL ARCH started onlythree times as a two-year-old, running fifth at his first start to the brilliant filly. Picture Play, the ultimate easy winner of the One Thousand Guineas, and was prominent at his other two starts. Ran 2nd, Baghill Handicap, 1) miles, car. 8-5, 15 starters. Ran 3rd Holiday Handicap, 1J miles, car. 9-0, 14 starters. Ran Bth, Northern Cesarewitch Handicap, 2i miles 60 yards, 15 starters. AT 4 YEARS. Won. Grove Handicap, Ij miles, car. 8-0, 14 starters. Won, Crathorne Handicap, 1 mile 7 furlongs, car. 8-5, 7 starters. Ran 2nd, North of Trent Handicap, 2 , miles 2 furlongs, car. 8-11, 17 starters COLORADO KID (14), the sire of ROYAL ARCH, was also a great weightcarrier and fine stayer, winning from 7 furlongs to 2} miles and £9462 in stakes. At 3 years he won 6 races over 1 and 14 miles, at 4 years he ran third in the City and Suburban Handicap, and was afterwards unbeaten, winning the Kempton Jubilee Handicap, the Royal Hunt Club Cup (from a field of 28), Chesterfield Cup, 14 miles, carrying top-weight, 9-6, and the Doncaster Cup, 24 miles at w.f.a. He is by PHALARIS, noted son, COLORADO (3), from BABY POLLY, by SPEARMINT (1) (son of CARBINE), from PRETTY POLLY, by GALLINULE from ADMIRATION. Colorado Kid is the sire of winners over all distances, but most of his stock stay well, the average distance of his winners, from 3-year-olds upwards, being 10.38 furlongs. MOLLY BAWN (14), the dam of Royal Arch, is the dam of seven winners to date, and her three-year-old daughter, e Fair Profit, was recently bought for the National Stud for 5600 guineas. The family is one of the best in the Stud Book and in addition to Pretty Polly (One Thousand Guineas, Oaks, and St. Leger), and Tehran (St. Leger) has produced in recent years, the unbeaten Italian champion, Donatello 11, now at • the stud in England, the great sire and racehorse, Craganour, the Goodwood Cup winner, Fearless Fox (second in the St. Leger), Spike Island (Irish Derby), Challenge (Jockey Club Stakes, second in St. Leger), Zodiac (Irish Derby and St. Leger), Light Sussex (English Oaks). King John (Irish Derby), Why Hurry (English Oaks. 1943), the champion New Zealand sire. Foxbridge, etc. Molly Bawn, a winner hersef, was by Junior, winner of £7BOO in fetakes and from the same familv as Salmagundi, Junior. by Symington, sire of Simper, is also the maternal Grandsire of the Derby and . Gold Cup winner, Ocean Swell. In addition to being the dam of seven winners. Molly Bawn is a half-sister to Young Native, winner of the Newbury Spring •• Cup. Brighton Cup, etc. Molluscs, the grandam of Royal Arch, was also a winner, is the dam of numerous winners and is a half-sister to the Irish Derby winner, King John, to Mirawala, the grandam of Tehran, who defeated Ocean Swell in the St. Leger, ran second in the Derby and was the best stayer in England in 1945. The next dam, Miranda, is own sister to Pretty Polly, grandam of Colorado Kid, and ancestress of many famous racehorses and sires.
