RETAIL DELIVERY SERVICE

APPLICATION FOR LICENCE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 28. Reluctance to take action absolving shopkeepers from the duty of delivering goods to customers was expressed by the No. 1 Licensing Authority (Mr E. J. Phelan) yesterday when considering an application from a returned soldier for permission to run a parcels delivery service. The applicant said he had been in touch with butchers and other shopkeepers who were willing for him to take over their deliveries. Local* carriers were offering no opposition.

Mr Phelan said he felt that if he granted the licence he would onlv be helping shopkeepers to hang off in making deliveries to customers. He reserved his decision.
