TWENTY LABOUR CANDIDATES
MR MCLAGAN TO CONTEST RICCARTON
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 27. Three returned servicemen of the second world war are included in the first list of candidates for’Parliament chosen by the Labour Party. Announcing the names of 20 candidates, the national secretary of the Labour Party (Mr M. Moohan) said the selections had been made by local organisations and had been approved by the national executive. The North Island candidates are Messrs H. K. Hatrick (Hobson), C. R. Petrie, M.P. (Otahuhu), A. C. Baxter (Raglan), R. Boord (Bay of Plenty), G. Nimmo (New Plymouth), J. B. F. Cotterill, M.P. (Wanganui), G. H. Ormond Wilson (Palmerston North), the Hon. B. Roberts, M.P. (Wairarapa), Messrs J. Thorn, M.P. (Otaki), H. E. Combs, M.P. (Onslow), and A. E. Armstrong, M.P. (Napier). The South Island candidates are Mr E. P. Meachen, M.P. (Marlborough), the Hon. J. O’Brien, M.P. (Westland), the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, M.P. (Avon), Messrs T. H. McCombs, M.P. (Lyttelton), R. M. Macfarlarie, M.P. (Christchurch City), Miss M. B. Howard, M.P. (Sydenham), the Hon. A. McLagan, M.L.C. (Riccarton), the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, M.P. (Oamaru), and Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P. (Invercargill).
