NATIONAL ORCHESTRA ORGANISER

GOVERNMENT’S PROCEDURE CRITICISED

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 27. While the encouragement given by the Government to music was a source of gratification to all lovers of the art, in the formation of a national orchestra there had been a lack of frankness on the part of the Government and failure to endeavour to ascertain the feeling of those most intimately concerned, Mr H. Temple White said last night. Many protests sent from all over the country to the Minister of Broadcasting (the Hon. F. Jones), he said, had been based not on personal grounds but on the method adopted in the foundation of the orchestra. Leaders of music in New Zealand should surely have been consulted, but they were ignored. Mr White said the whole procedure appeared to him to be undemocratic.
