MATSUOKA DEAD
FORMER JAPANESE MINISTER NEGOTIATED AXIS PACT (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, uune 27. The former Japanese Foreign Minister (Yosuke Matsuoka), who was one of the 28 Japanese leaders indicted as
war criminals, has died of tuberculosis. He was 65 years of age. Matsuoka, who was Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Konoye Cabinet from 1940 to 1941, arranged the pact with Germany and Italy, and had talks with Hitler and Mussolini nine months before Pearl Harbour. He was Japan’s chief delegate to the League of Natidns in 1529, and made the farewell speech declaring his country s I secession from the League.
