MEMBERS OF SERVICES HONOURED

RICCARTON-FENDALTON FUNCTION

The Riccarton Racecourse tearooms were crowded last evening, when more than 600 persons were present at a welcome home social and dance for returned servicemen and women of the Riccarton-Fendalton district.

It was the third and last social of its kind to be given for this object, the number of returned servicemen and women who have been welcomed home in this manner being more than 400.

Mr L. E. Owen, chairman of the Ric-carton-Fendalton Welcome Home Committee, Introduced the speakers, who were: Mr H. S, S. Kyle, Mayor of Riccarton; Mr E. Stackhouse, of the Waimairi County Council; Mr CoUn Miln, vice-president of the Returned Services’ Association; Mr H. E. Batchelor, chairman of the Riccarton Returned Services’ Association; and Captain A. J. Steele, M.8.E., who replied to the speeches of welcome on behalf of the returned servicemen and women, and on behalf of Brigadier E. T. RowUings.
