THE WHEAT PRICE

NEGOTIATIONS WITH GOVERNMENT "SATISFACTORY OUTCOME” EXPECTED Negotiations with the Government on the fixing of the wheat price were the subject of a brief statement last evening by Mr R. T. McMillan,®chairman of directors of United Wheatgrowers, who expressed •confidence that the outcome would be satisfactory to - growers of wheat. Mr McMillan’s statement is as follows: “Following upon a recent conference held in Wellington between the Government and representatives of United Wheatgrowers, Federated Farmers, the R.S.A. and the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, certain proposals have been submitted which have been considered and approved by the Government and by the board of United Wheatgrowers. It is expected that the North Canterbury Federated Farmers will approve. x “These proposals will be submitted to tiie Electoral Committee of United Wheatgrowers at an early date for confirmation. As the result of the agreement which is expected to evolve from these proposals, the board hopes that growers will be greatly encouraged to increase their area of spring-sown wheat and prepare land for sowing wheat in 1947.”
