FORCED WITHDRAWAL RECEIPTS
PRISONER SENTENCED AT DUNEDIN
(P.A.) DUNEDIN, June 25. David Roy Green, aged 23, a labourer, of Christchurch, came before Mr Justice Kennedy in the Supreme Court to-day for sentence on two charges of forging post office savings bank withdrawal receipts. Mr J. B. Deaker, for the Crown, said that the total amount involved in the two charges was £69, comprising £29 and £4O.
His Honour said that ,the prisoner appeared for sentence for having committed at Christchurch the crime of forgery and uttering. “It appfears that on two occasions at Christchurch,” said his Honour. “you stole savings bank books and forged withdrawal receipts, and that you drew from the bank sums totalling £6O or more, which you spent in expensive living in Wellington.” His Honour said that although the prisoner was young, yet he had during the last nine months on three occasions been before the Court.* The prisoner’s conduct was disgraceful, and he must be brought to his senses. “The trouble with you.” added his Honour, “is just plain laziness and greed."' The prisoner was sentenced to nine months’ reformative treatment on each 'charge, the sentences to be concurrent.
