FRENCH CABINET FORMED
New Three-Party Coalition COMPROMISE WITH COMMUNISTS (N.Z. Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) PARIS, June 24. A new French Government has been formed, headed by M. Bidault, leader of the Popular Republicans (M.R.P.). M. Bidault retains the portfolio of Foreign Minister. The Cabinet is similar to the previous Cabinet of the Socialist leader, M. Felix Gouin. It gives equal representation to the Communists, the Socialists, and the M.R.P. M. Gouin and M. Maurice Thorez (the Communist leader) are Vice-Presidents.
Other appointments are:— Minister of Finance, M. Schuman (M.R.P.).
Minister of Justice, M. Pierre-Henri Teifgen (M.R.P.). Minister of the Interior, M. Depreux (Socialist). Ministers of State, MM. Francisque Gay (M.R.P.) and Alexandre Varenne, Socialist Resistance Union (Left Centre).
Minister of Population, M. Robert Prigent (M.R.P.). Minister of Posts and Telegraphs, M. Jean Letourneau (M.R.P.). Minister of the Armed Forces, M. Edmond Michelet (M.R.P.). Minister of National Economy, M. Francois Dementhon (M.R.P.). Minister of Agriculture, M. Pierre Tanguy-Prigent (Socialist). Minister of Education, M. Edmond Naegelen (Socialist). Minister of Public Works and TransM. Jules Moch (Socialist). . Minister of Colonies, M. Marius Moutet (Socialist). Minister of Armaments, M. Charles Tillon (Communist). Minister of Labour, M. Ambroise Croizat (Communist). Minister of Health, M. Rene Arthaud (Communist). Minister of Former Soldiers and War Victims, M. Laurent Casanova (Communist). Minister of Reconstruction, M. Francois Billoux (Communist). Minister of Industrial Production, M. Marcel Paul (Communist). M. Bidault, as well as being Foreign Minister, controls the Information Ministry, assisted by M. Andre Colin (M.R.P.) as Secretary of State. A Minister of Food has been appointed. M. Bidault and the Communists compromised on the matter of wage increases, which had been a stumbling block in the negotiations. The Communists agreed not to press for the full 25 per cent, increase demanded by the trade unions, but to accept 15 per cent. The Socialists won their point that the life of the present National Constituent Assembly should not extend beyond October 15, when there should be a General .Election and also a referendum on a draft Constitution.
