WHEAT
Sir, —Congratulations to Mr Campion on his letter to the Prime Minister. Mr Campion will be accused of political propaganda, but the wheat question has got past that stage in New Zealand. It is a blot on our country that we should be importing thousands' of tons of flour and wheat, and thereby taking it away from people who are starving. By pegging the wheat price and allowing a free market for other lines produced by farmers, the Government has practically stabilised wheat out of production. The weather is always blamed, but there is no doubt that ’ways and means would be found by growers to increase the area if the incentive was there. Any increase that has been granted has always been “too little, too late.’’ The mishandling of the wheat position in New Zealand will cost the Government more votes than it realises.—Yours, etc., TOWNIE.
