INTERNAL MARKETING DIVISION

Sir, —With many others, I thought the various new Government departments set tip during the war were to be closed down when it was finished. According to the regional scheme just published, one of the most useless is still to be kept going, unless we get a change of Government at the year end. I refer to the Internal Marketing Division. Have your readers noticed how during the quarrel between the buyers and sellers of vegetables the piiblic have really been getting fresh vegetables, which seem to have gone off the markets entirely since the Internal Marketing Division started operating? I refer to those sold in the streets of Wellington and Auckland.—Yours, etc., ONLOOKER. June 12, 1946. [The Director of Internal Marketing says: “The Internal Marketing Division is not a war-time department, having been established in 1937. However, during the war its activities were greatly extended to cope with problems caused by war-time shortages and maldistribution. Since the division has never exercised marketing control over vegetables, any lack of freshness or other undesirable market features cannot be attributed to its operations.”.]
