CYCLIST SERIOUSLY INJURED

MOTORIST FAILS TO STOP (P.A.) HASTINGS, June 23. Severe injuries were received by a cyclist when he was knocked down by an unknown motorist in Hastings last night. The cyclist was James Albert Woodfield, aged 27, single, of 572 Gordon road, Hastings, who suffered head injuries. His condition is serious. The collision occurred at 10.50 p.m. at the corner of Prospect and Southland roads. The motorist, who was driving a modern green car, failed to stop after the accident, and is now being sought by the police. ELDERLY MAN KILLED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 23. An elderly man was killed when he was knocked down by a motor-car on the Mount Wellington highway on Saturday evening. He was John Robert Haggle, aged 73, of Christchurch. Haggle. who had come fram the South Island only recently, was killed instantly. STEEPLECHASE RIDER INJURED The jockey, J. F. Nicholson, was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital on Saturday suffering from slight concussion, received when his mount, Bannockburn, fell in the Dromore Hack Steeplechase at the Ashburton Racing Club’s meeting. MOTOR-CYCLIST SERIOUSLY INJURED William Guildford, aged 21, of 105 Nayland street, Sumner, suffered ini* uries to his head and left arm when le was thrown from his motor-cycle after it struck a kerbing on the Esplanade, Sumner, about 8 o’clock on Saturday evening. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital end was placed on the seriously ill list. His condition last night was reported to be improving. INJURIES TO HAND

Donald Hindle, aged 20. of 26 Butterfield avenue, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital about 6 o’clock on Saturday afternoon after the collision of his motor-cycle with a motor-car at the intersection of Linwood avenue and Tilford street. He suffered injuries to a hand His condition last night was said to be satisfactory.
