This was the Congress reply to a telegram from Pandit Nehru ing the working committee to carry on without him, as “he was whol y unable to return until the full liberty of the movement, including a visit to Srinagar, is accorded me.” Dr. Arad’s message stated that Congress was as equally solicitous as Pandit Nehru regarding Sheik Abdullah’s case and the welfare of the Kashmir peoples, but he considered that Pandit Nehru’s presence in New Delhi was essential above all other matters. He therefore expected that Pandit Nehru would return to New Delhi and notify the Maharajah of Kashmir that he would return to Kashmir “retrieve his honour and fulfil his mission, as . soon as he was freed by Congress. Two grain shop looters were shot down by police during disturbances in Madura held as a protest against Pandit Nehru’s detention, says the New Delhi correspondent of Reuter’s. The police used tear-gas against the demonstrators to-night and a curfew was imposed.
