DEMAND FOR FOOD
ANGRY HOUSEWIVES IN LONDON LABOUR PARTY OFFICE STORMED (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, June 22. “Angry housewives last night stormed offices of the South-West Bethnal Green branch of the Labour Party shouting ‘We want food’,” says the “Daily Mail.” “The women, who were from one of London’s worst bombed areas, were so angry that the local member of the House of Commons (Mr P. Holman) two hours later received a deputation. “The women complained that although they queued up from 6.30 a.m. each day they found it almost impossible to get offal, poultry, rabbits, and tinned fruit. They demanded to know Why they should go without when West End restaurants had plenty of food. , “The deputation told Mr Holmap that their children were suffering from skin diseases because of shortage of fats and soap to wash them. They handed him a resolution demanding that the Minister of Food (Mr John Strachey) should give an assurance that there would be no further food cut. and no more food would be sent abroad.”
