DISARMAMENT IN GERMANY
INVESTIGATION MOVE DELAYED
REPORTED DEADLOCK IN ALLIED CONTROL (Rec. 8 p.m.) BERLIN, June 22. “The issue of appointing a foiirPower commission to investigate the status of German disarmament in the four zones has been referred to the Governments of the occupying Powers, because apparently an insoluble dead; lock has been reached in the Allied Control Authority,” said LieutenantGeneral J. T. McNarney, commander of the American zone. “The proposal for an investigation was made several weeks ago by the Americans, but it is understood that the Russians blocks ed it, because it contained a provision that the economic sphere of disarmament should also be investigated.’’ Lieutenant-General McNarney said the Foreign Ministers also would try to solve the issue of recognising Germsny as an economic entity, but if the deadlock was not broken the Americans had a plan for the future administration of their zone. The plan provided for the reduction of the American forces in Germany to 150,000. Lieutenant-General McNarney discounted reports current in Berlin that the Russians were increasing the number of occupation troops in their zone. “The only thing we have about Russian movements is that a certain number come to Germany from Austria, via Czechoslovakia,” he said, “but ficcording to our information the overall total has decreased,”
