MID-WEEK RACING
Sir,—l notice that the return to midweek race meetings is being mooted in some quarters. In view of the fact that we are having it impressed upon us that more production is our only salvation in these difficult times, it is astounding that we have interested parties extolling the virtues of this step because of a certain amount of inconvenience to those directly concerned. To say the least,’ this is a disturbing suggestion and one which the Government should know how to deal with in the only manner possible. I am an ardent racegoer, but it beats me how any intelligent man, for the inadequate reasons given, could honestly make this suggestion; which has not one: reasonable: argument to recommend it. Thb suggestion should, and I hope will, receive the very prompt demise it deserves.—Yours, etc., PRODUCE. June 21, 1946.
