COMMISSIONED IN JAPAN
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES FROM N.Z. (N.Z. Official Correspondent with J Force) YAMAGUCHI, June 10. The first New Zealanders to be commissioned in Japan passed out of the O.C.T.U. this week-end. They are representatives of all arms of the service and will take the places of officers returning to New Zealand in replacement drafts. On the day of commission they marched past the New Zealand Brigade Commander, Brigadier K. L. Stewart, who later addressed them.
The majority of these new officers will spend a brief “post-graduate” period attached to British units prior to rejoining the 2nd N.Z.E.F. The successful candidates were:— W. S. Doherty (Timaru), J. McG. McIntyre (Hokitika), W. A. Penrose (Dunedin), H. Bleasdale (Christchurch), P. T. Heath (South Canterbury), B. T. Henare (Auckland), F. A. Hutching (Woodville). J. F. Pope (Wanganui), P. Raroa (Rangitukia), L. F. Smith (Wellington), G. M. L. Whyte (Auckland), F. M. Avery (Auckland). W. R. Heatherweck (Wellington), I. S. Nabbs (Woodville), F. White (Waihi), R, P. T. Speedy (Dargaville), N. W. H. Rollonson (Auckland), and N. L G. Baker (Timaru).
