SOUTH-EAST ASIA
SPECIAL DEFENCE COUNCIL (Rec. 10 P.m.) SINGAPORE, June 19. A South-East Asia Command Headquarters communique says that a South-East Asia Defence Council has been established in Singapore. It consists of the Governor-General (Mr Malcolm Macdonald) as chairman; Lord Killearn and the Acting-Supreme Allied Commander. It will keep under constant review the defence problems of the area, and direct combined planning and all relevant matters. The Governors of the British colonies and protectorates in the area and the • Commanders-in -Chief of the fighting services will be invited to attend or send representatives when matters affecting their responsibilities are under discussion. The council will keep in touch with other defence authorities in the South-west Pacific, especially those in Australia and New Zealand.
