ITALIAN REPUBLIC
FORMAL CHANGES MADE BY DECREE HOME, June 19. The Italian Cabinet, after the proclamation of the Republic, approved a decree providing that: (1) The Supreme Court’s verdict would be handed down "in the name of the Italian people.” (2) The official Gazette would be renamed the official Gazette of the Republic. (3) The shield of the House of Savoy wou|d be removed from the Italian flag, leaving only the red. white, and green bars. (4) All references to the monarchy would be removed from oaths and other legal and judicial forms. The Prime Minister (Signor de Gasperi) last night sent a telegram to the British Labour Party asking tor its support.
