WAIMAIRI COUNTY ESTIMATES

* i-: GENERAL RATES NOT INCREASED There will be no increase in the Sjneral rates of the Waimairi County ouncil this year, according to figured approved with the estimates last evening. Small -reductions have been jiuS* sible on two special rates within local areas. Christchurch Tramway Board: general rate of .18750 d in the £ and » special rate of .08013 d in the £ on capital value. Christchurch Domains Board: l-25d in the £ on capital value. Cr. H. Kitson, chairman of the finance committee, said that in the last year there had been heavy expenditure on works delayed during the war. Accumulated funds had been considerably, reduced, and it would not now be possible to complete major works out of revenue. Recourse would probably have to be taken to levying rates over special areas where such work was required. The rate demands would detail the amounts collected for purposes other than those of the council.
