VALUABLE JEWELLERY STOLEN
THEFT FROM HOME OF MAYOR OF AUCKLAND (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 20. Jewellery valued provisionally at £3OO was stolen from the home of the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs J. A. C. Allum) while they were at a civic reception to fhe GovernorGeneral and Lady Freyberg at the Town Hall last night They returned to their home at Herne Bay at 11.30 pjn. and found the front door unlocked. About £l5 had been stolen as well as the jewellery. Mr and Mrs Allum had been absent from their home since 7.30 p.m. It is believed entry was gained through a window. The missing property includes diamond rings and a pearl necklace.
