£5000 MOTOR CAMP
MONEY “SPENT IN WESTPORT That more than £SOQO has so fir been spent by the Automobile Association, Canterbury, with very littin return to date, on a motor camp ip Westport, is causing some concern to ' members of the council of the association, according to statements made at a meeting last evening. A plumber’s bill for £347 for the camp caused the debate, in which several ! including the treasurer (Mr W. R. Carey) and Mr R. Twyneham, expressed apprehension at the capital cost, compared with possible returns, in the years to come. Mr Carey said that the expenditure on Westport represented about onefifth of the association’s total capl» tai. The question he and other speak* ers asked was whether this was a correct expenditure in relation to the wide district covered by the assqcia* tlon. “I have a feeling that expenditure on the West Coast, and particularly at Westport, is getting out of hand,” said Mr Twyneham. He said that this was f a reflection on all members, since all the council members had had their chance of expressing their views these matters many times before. It was finally decided that some members of the council should visit Westport and see for themselves the work that was being done. ~
