POLICE CHALLENGES DISREGARDED
CONVERTED CAR FOUND ABANDONED
Signalled to stop at two different points at Lyttelton by constables, the driver of a motor-car converted at Timaru at the week-end, increased his speed. The car was the property of Mr Annand, of Dunedin. All stations were instructed to keep a watch for the converted car and the next night two constables on duty at Lyttelton saw it and tried to stop it. Seeing the lights of a car on the Sumner road, the first constable stepped out into the roadway, and flashed his torch as a signal to stop. The signal was disregarded. and the speed of the car was increased. The constable had to jump to safety. The second constable further along the road had to repeat the performance. The car .was found abandoned the next morning in Stoke street. Sumner.
By unscrewing the screws of the hinges and lifting off the doors of a garage at 36 Wainui street, Bexley, a thief or thieves stole a car on Tuesday night, some time after 7.30 o’clock. The car was the property of Miss W. Hall. The loss was reported to the police and the car was found abandoned in a boggy, blind road off Bexley road, not a mile from where it had been taken. The osr was not damaged.
