LANCASTER PARK
Sir, —With regard to a player’s amateur status with the Canterbury Rugby Union; how do the several professional runners in one of the leading senior Rugby teams stand? In Auckland some of the finest amateur athletes play Rugby League in the winter and are still classed as amateurs. As far as Lancaster Park is concerned, I would like to ask the Victory Park Board of Control or the Rugby Union the following questions: (1) If professional organisations are not. allowed the use of Lancaster Park then why was the Victory Band Contest, with prize money of several thousand pounds, held there? (2) Why was A. L. Fitch, American professional athletic, coach, allowed to attempt to break the world’s 100yds professional sprint record on the park? (3) If the English Rugby League team is refused permission to play there, will the English cricket team, usually composed mostly of professionals, be allowed to play there?— Yours, etc., 13 A SIDE.
