LORD MONTGOMERY IN INDIA
UNOFFICIAL VISIT TO NEW DELHI (N.Z. Press Association--Copyright) (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) NEW DELHI, June 17. The Viceroy of India (Lord Wavell) has issued a communique stating: "At the invitation of the Viceroy, FieldMarshal Lord Montgomery is paying, an unofficial visit to New Delhi in order to acquaint himself with current strategical problems of the India Command before taking up his appointment as Chief of the Imperial General Staff.” Field-Marshal Montgomery arrived at Karachi by air to-day.
