British Tennis Player's Death.—The former Wimbledon tennis star Horkce Keates Lester aged 42, crashed 100 ft to his death from the roof of a London block of flats. His wife said that Lester had no troubles and may have been sleep walking. Lester played for England in the 1926 Davis Cup and went Abroad with many touring teams. —London, ,June 16.
Da v, s Cup Tennis.— The United States eliminated the Philippines from Hie Davis Cup by three matches to nil. Talbert and Mulloy beat Ampon and Carmons in the doubles. 6-1. 6-3, 6-1. In the singles. Parker (United States) defeated Anadd Sanchez (Philippines). 6-1 6-4, 6-0, and Schroeder (United States) substituting for Talbert, defeated Ampon (Philippines). 6-2. 6-4, 6-4 The Americans lost only 24 games m five matches.—New York. June 16. Rugby in Brisbane.—ln a return match at the Exhibition ground to-day the New South Wales touring Rugby team beat Queensland by 30 points to 6. Although outclassed in the lineouts for most of the game, the speed and combination of the tourists overwhelmed Queensland. New South Wales scored eight tries, three of which were converted. Queensland’s points came from two penalty goals.— Brisbane. June 17.
