CANADIAN M.P. CONVICTED
ATTEMPT TO DISCLOSE WAR SECRETS MONTREAL, June 18. A Labour Progressive Party membsr of the House of Commons (Fred Rose) baa been convicted on a charge of conspiring to communicate war-time secrets to Russia through a Moscowdirected espionage network. The King's Bench jury deliberated for only 31 minutes before reaching a Verdict. Rose, who will be sentenced on June 20, is liable to the maximum term of seven years' imprisonment. He is also scheduled for trial in September on four counts of violating the Official Secrets Act in connexion with the espionage case. Each of these counts also carries a maximum sentence of seven years. Rose was handcuffed before .being led from the Courtroom. Rose was arrested on March 14 in what the Government described as a drive against a Soviet-directed spy ring which extended into the United States and which allegedly attempted to ferret out information about the atom bomb, radar, electronics, and the disposition of United States' troops
