SECURING WORLD PEACE
TASK OF UNITED NATIONS
‘‘EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON GOODWILL”
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 17. “It is my belief that the United Nations’ Organisation can now move forward to achieve the object of securing world peace,” said the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), reporting for the Parliamentary section to the New Zealand Labour Party conference to-day. “The machinery is there,” Mr Fraser said: “Everything now depends on goodwill among the nations, and the spirit of co-operation and trust which must be built up in forthcoming years. “The New Zealand delegation strongly supported the transfer of mandated territories to the United Nations’ Organisation,” added Mr Fraser. “The delegation led the way by declaring New Zealand’s willingness to submit Western Samoa to the authority of the Trusteeship Council, which will probably come into being before the end of the year. “If, as I expect, we continue to be entrusted with the administration of Western Samoa under the new system, this will automatically qualify New Zealand as a permanent member of the Trusteeship Council.”
