ST. BEDE’S WINS DEBATING SHIELD The Catholic secondary schools’ competitions were concluded last evening. The debating shield and oratory certificates were presented to the winners by his Lordship Bishop Lyons. Results were:— Bishop Lyons Debating Shield.—St. Bede's B (O. Leeming and P. Cosgriff) 1, St. Mary’s Christchurch B (Betty Goggin and Patsy Bennet), Sadred Heart Christchurch B (Ursula Baker and Marie Kelly), Sacred. Heart, Ashburton A (Patricia McCormick and Marie Purcell), equal 2. Oratory Section.—T. Cloher (Hokitika Convent A) 1, P. Cosgriff (St. Bede’s B) 2, Yolanda Humphries (Villa Maria) 3. Elocution.—Bernice McAleer (Sacred Heart B) 1, N. O’Sullivan (St. Bede’s B) 2, F. Mulrennan t Hokitika Convent B) and J. O’Sullivan (St. Bede’s A), equal. 3. Impromptu Speech.—H.
