CONFERENCE ON EDUCATION
N.Z. DELEGATE TO U.S. MISSION OF MR DAVID FORSYTH (P.A.) DUNEDIN. June 16. Mr David Forsyth, principal of the Dunedin North Intermediate School, has been selected by the New Zealand Educational Institute to be the New Zealand representative at a world conference of teachers to be held in Endicott, New York, from August 17 to 30. The conference will be held under the auspices of the National Education Association of the United States of America and will be attended by representatives of all of the United Nations. The purpose of the conference is to discuss how best the educational profession in all lands can co-operate in promoting conditions necessary for a lasting peace, to consider the best methods of bringing about an effective restoration of educational services in devastated lands, and to endeavour to promote closer co-operation between educational organisations generally. During his visit to the United States, Mr Forsyth has been asked by the Minister of Education (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) to spend some time studying educational conditions and investigating educational problems there. The Government is anxious to resume its policy of educational development, interrupted by the war, and the Minister has indicated that he would welcome news of overseas progress and development. ’ Mr Forsyth, who will leave for the United States by aeroplane about the beginning ot August, is well known in educational circles throughout New Zealand, having been president of the New Zealand Educational Institute during three critical war years. He was educated at the Toko District High School and Otago University and received his training at the Dunedin Teachers’ Training College. In 1930 he was appointed headmaster of the Port Chalmers School, a position he held until he received his present appointment in 1941. .
