Mr Bridges demanded an additional one cent an hour to equalise the West Coast dockers' wages with those of the East Coast dockers. Department of Labour conciliators and agents of Government-owned merchant ships worked until a late hour in an effort to reach a settlement in the maritime dispute before the strike deadline at midnight to-morrow.
