ALL TRANSPORT BY STATE
Plan Proposed To . Government ADOPTED BY LABOUR FEDERATION
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 15. A plan for the State to take over all tran»port by road, rail, sea, and air was adopted by the annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Labour to-day and will be placed before the Government. If the plan is put into operation its most significant effect will be the acquisition by the State of the whole of the country’s coastal shipping and in-ter-island passenger services. The conference, at the same session, endorsed the general principle of participation by workers in the control of Industry, and it can be assumed that if the State ownership policy is carried out. this principle will be advocated by the federation throughout the tr The P who& St question was referred to one of the conference committees-un-der the chairmanshin of Mr P. Mr Hansen presented a comprehensive reiport on behalf of the committee and the conference endorsed It- unanimIt is believed that since the compilation of the report was in the hands of the secretary of the Transport Workers’ Federation this organisation may also endorse the State ownership policy at its conference to be held shortly.
