JAPANESE BANKERS’ WARNING
PLAN TO CANCEL WAR DAMAGE PAYMENTS (•Bee. 9 p.m.) TOKYO, June 13. The National Federation of Japanese Bankers in a letter to the Cabinet gave warning that the Government’s proposed plan to cancel both war damage payments and compensation for unfulfilled munitions contracts would cause financial panic, with the possible closing of banks throughout the nation, and the collapse of the already tottering currency. The federation, which is tonona the most powerful financial organisations in Japan, recommended reasonable payment of Government compensation, although no statement was made as to what amount was considered reasonable.
