FIRST PEACE TIME PROGRAMME URANIUM PRODUCTS FOR HOSPITALS (Rec. 830 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 18. The United States Army’s Manhattan. Project which made the atomic bombs, has announced a programme which will ouen the way for the first peace-time use of atomic energy. Beneficial radio-active substances from the same uranium ovens which produced the ingredients for the bomb will be distributed to American hospitals and universities. Scientific and industrial laboratories will be used to trace substances in the body, and to study its functions and diseases, and possibly for medical treatment. The announcement added that the distribution might well have farreaching importance in peace-time research in physics, chemistry, metallurgy, and medical sciences.
