Inquirer.—The area of New Zealand is 103,569 square miles: of England. 50,874 square miles; of Scotland, 30,405 square miles; of Wales, 7468 square miles. Complying with the Law.—The officer in charge of the Labour Department (Mr S. E. McGregor) said that “under the -Minimum Wage Act, 1945, an employer, if he fails to comply, is liable to summary convictions of charges not exceeding £2O, and a further fine, not exceeding ss. for every day during which the default continues. Under the Agricultural Wage Act. 1946, an employer is liable to a £lO general . fine, and if it is a fault in regard to wages, a further 5s for every day during which the default continues.”
