ASHBURTON MEETING
TROTTING
TO-MORRQW’S PROSPECTS The New Zealand Sapling Stakes and the AH Aged Stakes are the main races on the programme for the second day of the Ashburton Trotting Club’s winter meeting, which will be held at Ashburton to-morrow. Some of the best pacers in commission will meet in the AH Aged Stakes, and this race should provide one of the most exciting finishes of the day. Clockwork has some splendid form to his credit this season, and if the track is not heavy, this son of Jack and Tijuana, should take part in the finish. Native Scott, a winner at his last start, has worked attractively at Addington, and, bracketed with Dundee Sandy, he should be in demand with Investors. Countless has shown signs of returning to form in his recent races; and Turco, with three wins at his last three starts, must be seriously considered. LoyQl Nurse is the problem horse in the race After racing consistently in the early part of the season to be placed in 11 of her first 15 races, she was unplaced in her next eight races; but on the first day of the Ashburton meeting she gave a dashing display to win the Rakaia Handicap from Lucky Loyal. If she repeats that form she will have most of the field in trouble to-morrow. In a race which is full of possibilities, Clockwork, Turco, and Native Scott may have most friends when the totalisator closes. A winner of two of her three races this season, Sahara Queen has done everything required of her in her preparation for the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, and she is the probable favourite: Darkie Grattan will be suited by the track conditions, and she appeals as the most likely to extend Sahara Queen. Of the others, On Approval has the speed to win if he begins correctly. Likely, from M. Holmes’s stable, has also shown enough ability in his races to warrant consideration. The programme is well varied and . interesting racing should be seen throughout the day Horses in form include:— 11 a.m.—Longbeach Handicap: Flame, Bonny Scott, Monitress. 11.45 a.m.—Trial Handicap: Hal Derby, Rural Lady. Lodestone. 12.35 p.m.—All Aged Stakes: Clockwork.
