NAVAL RECRUITING
LIMITED ENLISTMENTS TO BE ACCEPTED To allow men recently discharged, and over the age limit for normal recruiting, an opportunity to re-enlist, the Navy Department is accepting enlistments on a limited basis for periods varying from two to six years, An officer of the Navy Department said yesterday that a number of men who were a few months or a year outside the age group allowed for nor, mal recruiting had expressed their desire to re-enlist, and the scheme had been formed to accommodate them. The recruiting was not intended as a policy of expansion, as it was expected that the number of men offermg would be limited, and they would assist in filling the places of longr service men who had completed their engagements during the war and had since been discharged; The ratings accepted would be those who had considerable training behind them, a training which would be lost if they were called up in the normal way. The trades in which enlistments will be accepted are those of leading signalmen, leading telegraphists, lead“ing cooks, artificers and artisans, radio mechanicians, leading writers, stores assistants, able and ordinary seamen, and stewards.
