As a two-year-old last season wp . n Wel come Handicap from Highland Fling at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting. Club’s Easter meeting and he proved that this was not fiuk mx b , y winning the New Zealand SapS ta . kes at Ashburton from Doctor Ted. This season he has started in four races for two placings, and he should continue to pay his way in handicap events. False Prica

At ms first three starts at the Nelson Trotting Club’s meeting, Worthy Prince recorded a win, a secdhd placing, and a third placing: but in spite of this good form he returned a double-figure dividend when he won the Farewell Handicap, the concluding event of the meeting. This son of King Axworthy was unlucky in the Nelson Trotting Club Handicap, where he was securely pocketed on the rails until well into the straight, and his driver, C. M. Laing, was forced to let him drop back through the field and then -come with a late run on the outside. In the circumstances Worthy Prince did well to finish in third place to Huntingdon Lass and Real Nugget, which led for most of the way. Racing in the interests of the Christchurch sportsmen, Messrs N. Ashby and W Whittaker, Worthy Prince has been very consistent this season to register three wins and 11 minor placings in his last 15 starts. Works Well

If Royal Stone would reproduce the form she shows in training at New Brighton in her races, she would have little difficulty in winning, but so far this season she has recorded only four minor placings in 14 starts. She revelled in her work yesterday morning, and was much too good for her stable-mate, Bridget Mac. At her last start Royal? Stone finished third to Betty Maxegin and Calumella in the Stewards’ Handicap on the first day of the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting, and she may improve on that performance in the Mayfield .Handicap on Saturday Not Extended Although Confirmed’s winning margin was only a neck in the first division of the Improvers’ Handicap at Ashburton, he did not appear to be extended, and on that performance he should be prominent in the Tinwald, Handicap at Ashburton on Saturday A big gelding by Quite Sure from Placid, he should eventually make his way to good company.

Being Educated Mr A« Rhodes, who raced Bromley Boy with some success early in the season, is educating a two-year-old filly by U Scott from Minnetonka, which is in foal this season to Grattan Loyal. Mr Rhodes also has a yearling colt from the same parents, and his education will be commenced shortly. Bromley Boy has been suffering from an injury to a hoof, and it will be some time before he is ready to race again. May be Favourite Turco has done well in his work since winding three races at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting, and he is sure to be well supported in the All-Aged Stakes at Ashburton on Saturday. An aged gelding by Rey de Oro from Wrackoda, he was lightly raced ehrly in his career, and in his present form he would not be disgraced in any company. As a five-year-oid in the 1941-42 season he recorded a win and three secqnd placings in 14 starts, and after an unplacea performance in the Express Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting he did not race again until the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on October 7, 1944. Turco raced on six occasions in the 1944-45 season for a third placing and two fourth placings, and after being sent home for a spell made his first appearance this season in the Spring Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on October 6. He soon began to show signs of returning to form, and under Smith’s guidance he has registered five wins and seven minor placings this season. Now assessed on 4min 22sec for two miles, Turco is a potential cup candidate, and the All-Aged Stakes on Saturday may be a stepping-stone to further successes.
