SMOKING MILKMEN

Sir, —The insanitary habit of cigarette smoking by vendors while delivering milk has now, in spite of several complaints to the inspectors, become so common that it is a rare sight to meet a milkman without a cigarette hanging from his lips or even resting temporarily on the lids of his cans. Talking about pure milk, fancy the ashes from such a cigarette dropping into the milk! This must have happened many times, or even cigarette butts finding their way into containers. Even in several milk depots may be seen attendants smoking while serving milk or ice cream. Can nothing be done to stop this vicious habit? —Yours, etc., CONSUMER. June 10. 1946.
