ACCIDENTS
CAR FALLS INTO CREEK BROTHERS INJURED (P.A.) HASTINGS, June 10. When their car crashed down a sheer 40ft hill face into a creekbed at 5.30 p.m. yesterday, two brothers, Bryan Owen Heays, aged 17, and Colin Moore Heays. aged 21. suffered severe injuries and were later admitted to the Napier Public Hospital. The accident occurred at Tutira, 40 miles north of Napier. The . car apparently stalled in , the soft road surface and, although the brakes were applied, slipped back down a steep incline. sliding over the cliff. Bryan Heays suffered a broken right arm. broken ribs, and head injuries. Colin Heays probably has a broken pelvis. His condition is serious. STUDENT’S DEATH IN HOSPITAL (P.A.) DUNEDIN, June 10. Ivan Comrie Shanks, a second-year dental student, aged 20. living at Knox College, who was admitted to hospital on June 5. died last evening, apparently through taking corrosive sublimate in mistake for a laxative. The Coroner ordered a post-mortem examination, remarking, ‘‘inquiries reveal that there is some question of a mistake in a purchase from a firm.” CHILD SUFFERS BURNS When her nightdress caught alight while she was standing in front of a fire yesterday morning, Yvonne Lloyd, the four-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs L. H. Lloyd, of 11 Hammond place, Spreydon, received burns to her legs. She was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where her condition last evening was satisfactory. CYCLIST INJURED While cycling near the corner of Barbadoes and Gloucester streets about 5 p.m. yesterday Reginald Arnold Buckner, aged 45, of 43 Medway street, Richmond, came into collision with a motor-cycle. He suffered shock and was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where his condition is
