COURT MARTIALS IN R.A.A.F.

MINISTER ORDERS INQUIRY CANBERRA, June 8. The Acting-Minister of Air (Mr N. J. O. Makin) said last night that he would order a complete review of the Royal Australian Air Force courtmartial system. He was commenting on the case of an aircraftman who was held in close custody for 111 days before being brought to trial and was sentenced on Jpne 4 to another 28 days’ detention. The aircraftman, who is aged 19, w*as sentenced to detention for absence without leave. The court is unable to restore the 111 days’ pay automatically forfeited during the close arrest. The aircraftman was absent for some weeks without leave after the war had ended. He will be discharged from the service at the end of his sentence.
