DIPHTHERIA CASES IN AUCKLAND
COMMENT BY MEDICAL OFFICER (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 10. “Although the number of diphtheria cases now occurring has decreased somewhat, the danger of epidemic conditions being maintained is by no means past,” said the Medical Officer of Health for Auckland, Dr. L. S. Davis, whqp urging parents to take advantage of the campaign to have their children immunised against diphtheria. He said the offer of medical practitioners to carry out this work presented a wonderful opportunity to the people of Auckland, and if sufficient advantage was taken of the offer it would, it was hoped, free the city from much of the danger of this terrible disease. “The increase in the number of diphtheria cases this autumn, and the change of character to a more severe type of the disease has caused considerable anxiety,” said Dr. Davis. “There has been a definite increase in diphtheria in New Zealand in the last two years, and a still further and marked increase is being experienced this year.”
